AP Benson can help companies chart a course in a world of
proliferating yet converging media. The telecommunications,
television, film, computer games, Internet and animation businesses
all remain industries with exciting growth potential, despite
the apparent "bursting of the Internet bubble" in
2001.
AP Benson has worked with companies that provide a variety of
"soft" media services, including both traditional and 3D
animation and high-value Internet content production.
AP Benson has been involved in businesses at the hard technology
end of the media and communications business, including the producers
of technology for use in routers and telephone systems.
Examples of work completed include:
- 3D character animation - AP Benson assisted in the development of a
3D character animation application in a spinout company
from the University of Oxford. AP Benson helped the company
to refine their thinking on establishing the market potential
for their application, packaging of their core technology
into products (productisation) and developing their business
plan to a new level of detail. The business planning included
the development of thinking about distribution and support
models. The assignment also included the development of
a software development pipeline, development processes,
version control, recruitment of individuals with suitable
development skills and presentation of the development plan
to investors and potential investors. Comparisons were undertaken
of the proposed product and its underlying unique technology
with motion capture and frame animation techniques.
- Traditional Animation - We worked with a production house
using traditional animation techniques (frame animation) to develop
new channels to market and to refine their approach to business
development.
- Medical and Health Education - Project management
of the development of a content management system and health
information content to support healthcare choices by individuals
with an inherited risk of developing chronic diseases. The
project involved working with clinicians and their colleagues
to author and validate health information. The project also
involved working with journalists, illustrators and professional
writers to ghost-write the material produced by the clinicians
into a more palatable form for public consumption.
AP Benson are currently examining the potential value of creating
clusters of media companies, able, through collaboration, to create
products of greater value to creative and technology media buyers.
